3-D cinema has become extremely popular recently and the new 3-D capable TV set may be coming into your home soon.

The problem with 3-D media in the past was that you must wear special glasses for it ot work. Even though this is an old technology most 3-D technology today still relies on the 3-D glasses.

But guess what, Microsoft has come through again with the developement of a lens which could rectify the problem. With Microsoft’s new ability to track the position of viewers then send separate images directly to each eye, the new prototype display would eliminate the need for the awkward 3-D glasses.

Sharp, Nintendo and Fujifilm amoung other companies have also been researching the ability to produce 3-D images without glasses.

Most companies, such as Sharp, has tecnology that is limited because the viewer must stand in a precise spot with respect to the screen in order to correctly view the 3-D image. Microsoft’s technology however, takes it one step futher by providing a camera to track each viewer’s position and movements, then it sends the light in the appropriate direction, directly to the viewer’s eyes. This technology will even allow two separate users to view the 3-D image simultaneously..
